Internet Safety Day 2017

7th Feb 2017

Both P5 rooms were busy talking about how we all have to try very hard to stay safe when we use the internet.

We revised our Smart rules:

S- Safe- We have to be very aware about ways to stay safe when using the internet.

M- Meet- Never meet up with anyone you get in contact with through the internet.

A- Accept- Do not open any files or emails from an address you don't recognise.

R- Reliable- Not everything we read on the internet is true.

T- Tell- If we are worried about anything we have seen or read on the internet, we must tell someone.

We then took part in a lesson to learn about how to stay safe when posting photographs onto the internet.  We looked at photos of other children and wrote down our first impressions of them.  Some were positive and some were not.  This led to a discussion about how we can have an online reputation which can be determined by the type of photos we post.  We then talked about the negative affects of putting inappropriate photos onto the internet.

As a conclusion, P5 came up with the following questions to consider before putting a photo onto the internet.

Our 3 Top Tips

1.  Would we be happy for our parents to see the photo? If not then don't post it.

2.  Could the photo ruin our chances of getting a job later on in life?

3.  Would the photo cause us to have a negative online reputation?

We even made posters about this to remind us.

Remember, photos stay on the internet and never really disappear completely, so keep safe everyone.
