A HUGE Egg & a HUGE Thank You

21st May 2019

Our school received a lovely gift of an ostrich egg from Mr Nelson. Mr Nelson is past pupil from Whitehouse and he had remembered hearing about how Mrs Watson lost an ostrich egg during the fire way back in 2009! We have written to say a huge thank you on behalf of the school.

Dear Mr Kenneth Nelson,

We are writing on behalf of our class and our school to say thank you so much for sending us an ostrich egg that we can display and use in class to stimulate discussion. Our Year 3’s study birds and we know other classes are very interested in it too.

We thank you for sending us an ostrich egg, it was very thoughtful and kind. We are extremely appreciative as we used to own one. Our Year 7 teacher Mrs Watson got it on a holiday in South Africa in 2002. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in the school fire on the 18th of July 2009 and it was irreplaceable. This egg is a great gift and we enjoy asking questions and discussing about it. We also like to pass it around, very carefully!

Whitehouse Primary has certainly altered since you attended. Mr Bailie is now our principal, but has had to briefly leave to go and work for the Education Authority (EA) so Miss Blain is our acting principal currently.

Yet again, we thank you for taking the time to write to us about the egg and your own involvements in our school, and sending us the remarkable gift of the ostrich egg. We would like to wish you every happiness for the future.

Yours sincerely
