Internet Safety Day 2018

6th Feb 2018

Today was an important day, as we were all reminded, again, about how important it is to keep very safe when using the internet.

Some very good teachers, in the form of three P7 boys, came to tell us about how we should only use the internet in a positive way.  Here the children heard about how they should always make sure that what they say or post about another person, is only ever helpful and kind.  They also told us to be careful as pictures and messages can be taken the wrong way and not as we intended.  Here they recommended that if we are unsure how someone may feel about a post then we should check with them first.  The boys were very good at involving all the P5's in discussion and really made us think.

After that Mrs. Robinson looked at how the children should consider three things before posting a photo of themselves onto the internet.

1.  Would our parents or loved ones be happy seeing this picture of me?

2.  Could it give me a negative reputation as first impressions last?

3.  Could the photo make it difficult for me to get a job in the future?

We looked at different examples of children photos and we wrote about our first impressions of them.  The amazing thing was that people had different reactions to this EG: Some thought a boy in a photo was a bully who would not be a good friend while others took it that the boy was simply having fun with a friend.  Here we discussed how photos can be interpreted in many different ways.

This was a very useful day and we hope that we will all be very careful and mindful before we put a photo onto the internet.
