The World Around Us

What is The World Around Us?  It is the name given to the area of the primary curriculum that helps pupils to understand their environment, how it has changed over time and how we interact with our world.

In more traditional terms, The World Around Us equates to the following areas of study:

  • Geography;
  • History;
  • Science.

We believe this area of the curriculum is extremely important.  Education is more than developing a set of skills or a collection of knowledge.  It is so much more!  We want to educate our pupils to have a sense of awe about their world, an understanding of various cultures and times as well as developing a curiosity in our pupils that will encourage them to ask, 'What if?'

Mrs Weir is The World Around US Leader in our school.

What are some of the indicators in our work that demonstrates our commitment to The World Around Us?
We have an excellent The World Around Us Team;
We have, via Shared Education, developed quality STEM workshops in Key Stage 2;
We have targeted STEM as a key strategic goal for our school;
We have invested time and resources updating The World Around Us planning across the school.
